Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) has been cleared or approved by the FDA or European CE for the following conditions (as of early 2024)

    • FDA: Approved for treatment-resistant depression (since 2008).
    • CE: Approved for MDD.

  2. 2. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
    • FDA: Cleared for OCD (2018, via Brainsway Deep TMS™).
    • CE: Approved for OCD.

  3. 3. Migraine with Aura
    • FDA: Cleared for acute treatment (2013, eNeura sTMS device).

  4. 4. Smoking Cessation (Short-Term Aid)
    • FDA: Cleared as an adjunct for short-term smoking cessation (2020, Brainsway Deep TMS™).

  5. 5. Neuropathic Pain
    • CE: Approved for chronic neuropathic pain management.

  6. 6. Parkinson’s Disease (Motor Symptoms)
    • CE: Approved to address motor symptoms (e.g., bradykinesia, rigidity).

  7. 7. Stroke Rehabilitation (Motor Recovery)
    • CE: Approved for post-stroke motor recovery.

  8. 8. Tinnitus
    • CE: Approved for chronic subjective tinnitus.

  9. 9. Schizophrenia (Negative Symptoms)
    • CE: Approved for managing negative symptoms (e.g., apathy, social withdrawal).

Apart from the approved conditions, TMS can also be used off-label for various other conditions, such as:

  • Refractory Auditory Hallucinations

  • And many others, using a case-by-case, collaborative decision-making process.
